Introduction:
Active Life for All is a project that works across central Manchester, helping members of the community to increase their levels of physical activity.
The project aims to reduce the risk of Coronary Heart Disease and other chronic conditions through physical activity and lifestyle education. This is done in two ways: through one-to-one referrals and development of community activities, which include the following:
- Cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation.
- Weight management classes (with a dietitian).
- Chair based exercise, gentle exercise, home based exercise guide.
- Swimming lessons.
- Dancing, line dancing.
- Walking groups, cycling.
- Yoga, gentle stretching, Tai Chi, Qui Gong.
Who can refer into the project?
People can either refer themselves or they can be referred by a GP, primary and community health care staff or a community organisation e.g. local mental health groups or local women’s groups etc.
