Introduction:

Manchester Care and Repair is an independent charitable organisation working with older and vulnerable people to help them to live independently in a safe, secure, warm and well-maintained home. Manchester Care and Repair runs the “Steps to Safety” scheme, which helps to prevent older people from having a fall or other accident in the home. There is no fee for this service.

What to expect from this service:

A member of staff will visit the client at home and carry out a safety check, give advice and make recommendations to make their home safer and prevent falls. They will then arrange for an experienced fitter to carry out the basic works required. This may include the fitting of grab rails, curtain rails, repairing loose flooring etc. The client is introduced to other Care & Repair services including a handyperson service which, if they have nobody else to help them, they can call on for small DIY jobs.

What are the referral criteria for this service?

Any person over the age of 60 living in Manchester can either self-refer by telephoning Care and Repair or a representative can contact Care and Repair on their behalf with their permission.
